The DÖRR Digiline graduated grey filters are made of stable resin material, which is much less fragile compared to glass.
The rotatable filter frame for aligning the gradient is made of non-reflective, matt black metal. The soft gradient of the colour-neutral screw filter varies from transparent to grey with only 25% light transmission. This corresponds to a reduction of 2 aperture stops = increases the exposure time by the factor 4. The rating on the logarithmic scale is ND 0.6x.
The Digiline graduated grey filters are equipped with a front thread for mounting additional accessories such as a lens hood.

Digital cameras have a dynamic range of approx. 12 EV (EV = Exposure Value – 1EV corresponds to one aperture stop; + 1EV = double amount of light). Our human eye has a dynamic range of 20 EV. From the brightest spot to the darkest spot in the picture, we can capture significantly more than a camera image can reproduce.
When taking pictures with great differences in brightness, either the dark areas become black or the light areas in the image are overexposed and without any contrast. Impressive cloud formations can easily disappear from the picture and destroy landscape images.
A graduated grey filter only partially darkens the areas which are too bright. For example, the sky in a landscape picture. This reduces the dynamic range and contrast range of the image so that the camera can capture it. The ground and sky are now clearly visible in the landscape. Since the light areas in the image can vary, the grey gradient can be rotated.
